I am Professor of Philosophy at UC Berkeley. My research interests are in 19th and 20th century European philosophy. So far, my focus has been on Hegel, but I am slowly making my way to other figures, like Beauvoir and Nietzsche. I am also interested in feminism and in film.
I serve as Section/Area Editor at Philosophy Compass and Ergo, on the program committee of the Pacific APA, and on the board of directors of the Internationale Hegelvereinigung. Previously, I taught at UC Riverside, William & Mary, and Humboldt University in Berlin.
Here is a short interview, a longer interview, and a talk. In the photo I am sitting on Nietzsche’s rock near Sils Maria.
